Peloid is peat mud formed as a result of decay of plants in humid environment with little air. In its natural form it is coarse-grained.
Peloids are used in spa medicine and cosmetics in the form of ground ‘peat paste’ mixed with water. Peloids contain organic matter: bitumens, pectins, cellulose, hemicellulose and humic acids. Known as the ‘black gold’ of spa medicine, peloid has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral properties. It has a beneficial effect on metabolism, supports body functions and is a great for skin care.
Peloid treatments are a form of thermal physical therapy. Such treatments are helpful in the case of various pains caused by traumatic injuries and diseases.
The temperature of peloid applied onto the body is approx. 42°C. The thicker the peloid paste used in the treatment the warmer the body.
